Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few questions we've been asked numerous times over the years. If your question is not listed below or you would like clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us so we can assist you!

Why Mulch?

We highly recommend installing mulch in your garden beds for a number of reasons:

- Mulch helps retain water in the soil

- Garden beds often appear more clean and appealing to the eye with the presence of mulch

- Mulch decreases the number of weeds by creating a barrier between the soil and new weed seeds, as well as between the sun and any existing weed sprouts

- Mulch acts as a natural fertilizer as it decomposes

Mulch will not only heighten the appearance of your flower beds, but improve the overall health of the soil and plants.

How Often Should I Mulch?

A consistent layer of approximately 2-3 inches of mulch is optimal for a planting beds health. While mulch is very beneficial in the correct amounts, when layered too thick, it will retain too much water, rotting the base of surrounding plants and the mulch itself. Depending on various factors (if the bed is on a slope, how much rain is received in a season, foot traffic, and more) mulch should generally be replenished every year or two.

Can You Give me a Price Over the Phone?

It is almost impossible to accurately quote a property maintenance job without first seeing the size, location, slope and more, of the area. For this reason, I insist on seeing the area to be worked on (ideally with the client present) before estimating any prices. We provide this first consultation and following estimate(s) for FREE!

Can I Create a Payment Plan?

Yes! At A to Z Property Maintenance we are happy to create a payment plan that works with YOUR budget for this season.

What is "Aeration"?

Aeration, is defined as the introduction of air into a material. We do this to lawn spaces by punching small holes in the ground, removing small soil "plugs" in the process. Grass roots require water, nutrient and, believe it or not, air; but grass roots can become very compact over years of rain and walking. This makes the aerating process very beneficial to a lawns overall health when done correctly.

Can You Rake Up the Soil Plugs After Aerating?

To put it simply, I could remove the soil plugs, but I do not recommend it. While the plugs may look a little unappealing to the eye (small brown blobs in the grass), they breakdown very quickly with rain and foot traffic, helping to disperse nutrients throughout the lawn. The plugs should become unnoticeable within a week, but watering your lawn or aerating before rainfall can make the breakdown process even faster.
